How to Make
Azuma Bag
Azuma Bag — Step by Step Guide
SIZE & FABRIC
- Size is up to you. Make sure the height to width ratio (excluding seam allowance) is 1:3.
- Add a seam allowance of 1.5cm to 2.0cm around this and cut.
- For this example, we'll use a fabric measuring 66cm x 22cm. Add a 2.0cm seam allowance to prepare a piece of fabric 70cm wide x 26cm high.
- Draw lines directly on the fabric and cut.
Place the fabric horizontally and divide it into three equal parts of 22cm each, assigning parts A and B. Draw lines directly with a fabric marker while checking the top and bottom seam allowances, then cut.
Fold and stitch both sides with a triple fold.
First, stitch B and B together.
Flip the top of the sewn part towards you, and stitch A and A together.
The sewing order is important. First, sew B and B, then flip the top and sew A and A.

When opened, it will form the shape of an Azuma bag.
Finally, stitch the opening in a V-shape to complete it. (Red line in the diagram)
The V-stitch reinforces the bag opening, stabilizing its shape when carried.
