"Ki" as in "kimono" (着物) and "ki" as in "joy" (喜び). "Co" as in "communicate" and "connection." Our hope is that through kico, we can convey the spirit and beauty of kimono and connect people. That is the meaning behind the name "kico."

Connecting Traditions

At kico, we value kimono culture and craftsmanship while creating products that allow people, society, and resources to circulate and connect.

Kimono × Azuma Bag

kico bags are based on the shape of the "Azuma bag," a traditional Japanese fabric bag.
Made by tying a piece of cloth, the Azuma bag is a testament to Japanese ingenuity, used in daily life since ancient times.
At kico, we incorporate this shape into modern life, creating bags that showcase the beautiful patterns of kimonos.

Upcycling Kimono

Giving new life to forgotten kimono.
Vintage kimono are carefully unstitched
and transformed into new products,
allowing their beauty to continue into the future.
The lining uses water-repellent recycled nylon developed by Komatsu Matere Co., Ltd.
This environmentally conscious material also provides practical functionality,
allowing the bag to carry items such as bottles with condensation.

Craft & Community

Connecting craftsmanship and community.
Part of the kimono preparation process is carried out in collaboration with Workers’ Co-op Chiba, a social support organization.
The bags are then sewn by senior artisans with experience in traditional tailoring.

Sharing Culture

Bringing Japanese culture closer to everyday life. Through workshops using kimono fabric scraps,
kico creates opportunities for people of all ages to experience Japanese culture.
